Le Coupe Chou, Paris, France

This restaurant is so popular you will want to be sure to reserve in advance. Not only is the food consistently good, the atmosphere is extremely romantic and Parisian, with its fireplaces and candlelight. Very welcoming to tourists, but not “touristy”.

My wife found Le Coup Chou right around the corner from our hotel. What a pleasant find it was. We walked in without reservations the evening of 5/5/09. I inquired (in French) if they accepted clients without reservations and all there said that of course they did…but reservations are recommended for 20H00 on.
The manager graciously showed us around and allowed my wife to photo shoot away..as she’s a photo-journalist. Our meal was simply superb…the service is refined and most excellent. The costs are very reasonable considering where you are and what quality food you are enjoying.
Le Coup Chou will now be our “must go to” restaurant when we wre in Paris. As a comparison, Le Coup Chou is much better that the old Le Berthoud ever was…and that’s saying a lot.

My wife found Le Coupe Chou while on a walk-about. It was literally just around the corner from our hotel on Rue des Ecoles. We walked in a bit early in one evening and I inquired in French if the restaurant accepted clients who did not have any reservations. The answer was a very hospitable “yes”. When they found out that my wife was a photo journalist, we got a tour of the restaurant and she was allowed to click away with her camera. Then we sat down to a lovely table near the fire place.
What came next was 3 courses of absolute dining bliss. The food and service were outstanding..as was the wine. I do not consider the E100+ bill to be out of line with the fine dining experience we enjoyed.
We used to consider Le Berthoud Restaurant to be our “must go to” place….then it changed hands. Le Coupe Chou is much better than the Berthoud ever was.. even in the old days. And, that’s going quite a ways. Le Coupe Chou is now our new “must go to” place.
One tip to the wise. If you are not coming in early, reservations are a definite must.
