I stayed at Les Marronniers in 1979-1980. It was a marvellous experience, one of the happiest times of my life. Marie was and is a wonderful person. And I remember Christina Müller and her brother Tomas, from Denmark, as noted above. Happy memories!

So wonderful to read so many glowing reports. I recently saw also on Global village. Hope to see you Marie towards Sept + 2012. Researching a trip right now and had marked your home as my stay - (hopefully avail. It would make me feel a little more secure when travelling. Start of Autumn here in Australia windy today and raining. I live on a farm 3 hours from Sydney.

I was there - both Les Marroniers and Ladagnous from January of '67 until July '68. They were two different pensions, on the two corners of Rue Vavin and Rue d'Assas. Les Marroniers closed down during the summer of '67, maybe for repairs, but in any case, we were moved into Ladagnous across the street. We still took meals in the "marroniers" building. Six story walk up! We had choice of noon time meal, more food, or supper. Coffee, baguette, brought to rooms in the a.m. Sink and bidet only in bedroom, toilet down the hall, bath tub by appointment only, filled by Madame ??? for extra money. (She put two inches or so of hot water in the tub, you added your own cold water) Groups of us often went together to public bath over near Montparnasse - much cheaper, more water, and a variety of little shampoos and soaps for purchase.
We had great views of les "emeutes" of '68 - the police throwing "lacrimogenes" etc etc. What good times!! Haven't been back since. Lots of us were there to attend L'Alliance Francaise over on Blvd. Raspail.

It was Les Marroniers in 1939...I have it on a letter before me written by a young student to her parents in Britain on the eve of war....then it cost a 1000 old francs a month food included and it was run by a Mme Pinson :)

I hope you enjoy--this is one of my favorite quotes from Ernest Hemingway.

"If you have been lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of life it stays with you for Paris is truely a moveable feast".

What memories from reading these comments! I lived there in 1972 when it was Pension Ladagnous and fell in love with a young man who lived across the street on rue Vavin. Both of our terraces were on rue Vavin.
